Imagine Life Without Pain

Orthopedics is a branch of medicine that focuses on the musculoskeletal system, which consists of the muscles, bones as well as joints, ligaments and tendons.

Joint and back pain are some of the most common reasons for seeing an orthopedic physician, and yet millions of people continue to suffer needlessly, living with pain that could be treated – or even alleviated completely. From dull aches and sharp twinges to popping joints, numb extremities or osteoarthritis, people often endure much more than they have to. Talk with us about how we may be able to help with the following:

  • Back pain or lower back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Scoliosis
  • Knee pain
  • Hip pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Elbow bursitis or tennis elbow
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

Our orthopedic doctors in Birmingham across Central Alabama provide education, treatment and support to help you get back your life. We incorporate personalized, end-to-end treatment plans – both surgical and nonsurgical – for conditions as varied as sports injuries to worn-out joints.

Comprehensive Orthopedic Treatment For You

Treatment may vary according to the severity of the orthopedic condition. Your orthopedic may suggest at least one of the following treatment options:

The nonsurgical treatment options that our doctors may offer include the following:

  • Staying active. Your orthopedic doctor might suggest you to regularly exercise to maintain or improve your strength, flexibility and range of motion.
  • Immobilization. In some cases, keeping your strain or sprain from moving is the best option. Braces, splints and casts may be placed to keep the affected body part immobilized.
  • Medications. Pain and swelling medications may also be prescribed by your doctor.

Some of the surgical treatment options we offer include the following:

  • Minimally invasive and robotic-assisted joint replacement surgery. Joint replacement surgery is the replacement of a damaged or injured joint with a prosthesis. The prosthesis mimics the function of the joint and is composed of metal alloys, plastics and polymers. The surgery usually takes up to two hours, and the recovery time depends if the surgery is minimally invasive or not.
  • Arthroscopic surgery. This is minimally invasive procedure that is used to diagnose joint problems. The orthopedic doctor inserts an anthroscope, a long, thin camera, to the person’s joint that allows him/her to see the inside of the joint.
  • Repair of compound and simple fractures. These are surgeries that may need rods, screws, plates and wires to stabilize the damaged bone.
  • Torn ligaments or tendon repair.
  • Sports medicine. Our sports medicine specialists are skilled and experienced in treating all types of sports-related injuries, from fractures and sprains to tears and concussions.
  • Physical therapy and inpatient acute rehabilitation programs. Our physical therapy program aims to give patients pain-free movement, improved independence and maximum function through personalized plans, for all ages and diagnoses.

Please see one of our Birmingham orthopedic doctors if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Difficulty in performing daily activities
  • Pain or swelling in a joint or muscle that does not respond to over the counter medications and at-home care
  • Numbness and tingling in arms and legs
  • Recognizable decrease in range of motion
  • An injury to a bone or joint
