Brookwood Baptist Now Offers New Procedure for Minimally Invasive Treatment of Fibroids
Jan 18, 2022BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Brookwood Baptist Medical Center now offers the Acessa ProVu® system, a minimally invasive alternative for women with symptomatic fibroids who would otherwise require a hysterectomy or other surgical procedure.
“We are excited to add the Acessa ProVu system to our women’s care services, which will provide women suffering from fibroids with an additional option that can help restore their quality of life,” Dr. Elizabeth Ennis, Chief Medical Officer of Brookwood Baptist Health said. “This is another important step in advancing our minimally invasive surgical solutions for the patients we serve.”
The Acessa Laparoscopic Radiofrequency Ablation (Lap-RFA) is the first and only system to utilize radiofrequency ablation, laparoscopic ultrasound, and guidance mapping to treat women suffering from uterine fibroids. The Acessa procedure’s laparoscopic ultrasound and guidance mapping also allows the surgeon to visualize and treat more fibroids.
Symptoms of fibroids can include heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding, abdominal pain and pressure, frequent urination and anemia. For those that qualify, the benefits of the Acessa procedure, as an alternative to a hysterectomy, include a minimally-invasive procedure with two small incisions, a more rapid recovery with return to normal activities within days, as well as a low recurrence rate.
