Princeton Baptist Offers Midwifery Program Option for Moms

RaglandAndrew and Christen Ragland welcomed their first child, Nolan Hayes, into the world on July 14. He weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces and measured 21 inches.

The Leeds couple complimented Dr. Jesanna Cooper, an OBGYN affiliated with Princeton Baptist Medical Center, Christen’s midwife Sheila Lopez, as well as the staff of the hospital’s women’s center for the care received.

“My care here at Princeton has been incredible. My delivery was amazing and the whole team was very supportive,” Christen said. “I could not have dreamed of better care.”

The midwifery program at Princeton Baptist assists expecting moms seeking a natural birth experience. A midwife is a trained health professional who helps women during labor and delivery, as well as after the birth of the baby.

“Early in my pregnancy I started out at a different hospital. I had an awful experience and felt like nothing more than a number, so around 12 weeks I switched to Princeton,” she said. “I really wanted a more personal and intimate birth experience and I also wanted a more natural birth, if possible. Dr. Cooper and her team made all of that and more happen.”

Christen shared how the Princeton Baptist team had a personal and relatable staff.

“From my first appointment, the entire group made me feel like more than just a number on their patient list. They went above and beyond to make sure my baby and received great care. They listened to all my first time mom questions and never once made me feel silly for asking them.”

New dad Andrew echoed the same sentiments about the care the trio received at Princeton.

“I would give the care here a 10 out of 10,” he said. “I also felt so supported by the entire team. They were there for my wife and made me feel very comfortable during the whole process as well.”

We wish this young family all the best with their new little one!
