Dr. Stephen Bakir is a board-certified interventional cardiologist with Cardiovascular Associates. With 30 years of experience, he specializes in the catheter-based treatment of patients with structural and valvular heart disease as well as advanced or high-risk coronary artery disease. His expertise includes:
- Arrhythmia
- Coronary artery disease
- Myocarditis and cardiomyopathy
- Occlusion precerebral artery disease
- Peripheral vascular disease
- Respiratory disease
Dr. Bakir’s Training
He earned his medical degree at Emory University in Atlanta, where he also completed an internal medicine residency and a fellowship in interventional cardiology. Another fellowship in cardiology was performed at the University of Alabama University Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, where he served as chief fellow.

Dr. Bakir’s research has been published extensively, and he has lectured about cardiology topics at scientific meetings. He also served as a clinical instructor at the University of Alabama School of Medicine.
