What is a High-Risk Pregnancy?
Certain conditions can cause a higher risk of danger to your health and the health of your baby. Some of these include being pregnant with multiples, having a history of previous problem pregnancies, or being over age 35.
Examples of chronic conditions that can complicate a pregnancy include heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney problems, autoimmune disorders, diabetes, cancer or gestational diabetes.

Dedicated High-Risk Unit at Brookwood Baptist Medical Center
If concerns arise during your pregnancy, your doctor may require periods of bed rest. In the event of serious complications during pregnancy, Brookwood has a dedicated patient unit designed specifically for the care of high-risk pregnancies.
The Perinatal Unit has a staff of caring nurses who have received specialized training in high-risk pregnancies. Your private room is comfortable, with amenities such as cable television, Wi-Fi access, and room service.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Brookwood Baptist Health has three hospitals with Level III, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) that is staffed with board-certified neonatologists, neonatal respiratory therapists, and registered nurses who are certified in infant CPR, drug intervention, and advanced life support. Brookwood also provides a Neonatal Transport Service to newborns who were delivered elsewhere, but after birth need the resources available at our NICU.
