Adult Psychiatry
Our inpatient units provide structured, supportive, 24-hour care to adults aged 19 and older who suffer from a psychiatric illness or acute exacerbation of a chronic illness that hinders daily function.
Treatment
Throughout the treatment process, our team engages family members and loved ones to provide education regarding the patient’s treatment plan which can include:
- Pharmacotherapy
- Psychotherapy
- Family Counseling
- Disease Management
- Coping Skills
Discharge Planning
Discharge planning beings at the time of admission and continues throughout treatment. After a patient is discharged, we facilitate a smooth transition to the next stage of treatment. We may recommend one of the following services:
- Outpatient Therapy
- Partial Hospitalization Programs
- Intensive Outpatient Programs
Admission Criteria
Patients admitted for inpatient hospitalization must meet the following criteria:
- Must be an adult age 19-64
- Must have an acute psychiatric illness or acute exacerbation of a chronic illness
- Must be able to benefit from inpatient treatment

GERIATRIC PSYCHIATRY
Designed for seniors age 60 and older, this unit takes a holistic approach to assessing and treating the mental health issues that often occur as we age.
Treatment
Our team of geriatric psychiatrists, nurses, social workers and therapists assess each patient to create a customized treatment plan which can include:
- Daily therapeutic activities
- Physician management of chronic medical conditions
- Dietary counseling
Discharge Planning
In order to create a smooth transition from the hospital to home, we emphasize the least restrictive environment possible. The treatment team works closely with the patient and family to develop an aftercare plan that expands on the progress made while in the unit. Plans may include community-based programs, assisted living facilities, personal home care or a nursing care facility.

Our team of licensed therapists works together to develop an individual care plan for each patient. At each of our five locations, patients can experience five to six hours of therapy that might include:
- Individual Psychotherapy
- Group Psychotherapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Recreational Therapy
In addition, we also offer:
- Animal-Assisted Therapy (available at Brookwood, Shelby and Princeton)
- Art Therapy (available at Brookwood)
Inpatient Referral
Referrals may be made by a physician, employer, community agency, clinician or individual.
