Non-Surgical Weight Loss using Orbera™, OPTIFAST®, or the Serotonin-Plus Weight Loss Program ®
Improving lives, one pound at a time
Brookwood Baptist Health features three non-surgical weight loss services: Orbera™, Optifast® and Serotonin-Plus Weight Loss Program®. These programs are designed to motivate safe weight loss and help patients keep the weight off. Our trained professionals guide patients throughout their multi-week program of choice. Coaching may include nutritional and medical education, training, and behavioral and emotional support.
OPTIFAST® is a 16-week meal replacement program designed specifically for patients who struggle to keep weight off, who don’t qualify for bariatric surgery, and are looking to discover the triggers of their eating habits. While individual weight loss results may vary, five-year follow-up studies conclude nearly 50% of people who complete the OPTIFAST® Program are able to keep enough weight off to improve their long-term health.

The Serotonin-Plus Weight Loss Program is a 12-week, medically supervised program in which a patented serotonin supplement is paired with a personalized regimen based on your weight-loss goals, capabilities, and limitations.
The program is owned by Dr. Robert Posner. Physicians who offer Serotonin-Plus® are licensed by Dr. Posner to administer the program. To learn more, click here.
ORBERA® is a comprehensive two-part medically-supervised program that starts with a non-surgical procedure where the thin and deflated ORBERA® balloon is temporarily placed in your stomach, then filled with saline until it’s about the size of a grapefruit, and left for six months to reinforce proper portion control. At six months, the balloon is removed in the same way it was placed. Through a non-surgical procedure done under a mild sedative, it is deflated first then removed. The weight loss is generally rapid with the majority of weight loss typically occurring in the first three months of treatment. Patients will receive coaching along the way from a team of experts, which may include a dietician, psychologist, and exercise physiologist. Adjustments to eating habits and continued efforts to stay active will greatly influence results. To qualify for ORBERA®, adults should have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 to 40, and be willing to participate in a medically supervised program.
