Bariatric Treatments and Procedures at Brookwood Baptist Health
Minimally invasive surgery. Life-changing results
Our team will guide you through the surgical process and the recovery options available to maintain your weight loss. Brookwood Baptist Health’s bariatric surgeons provide three bariatric surgical options, usually performed through minimally invasive or laparoscopic techniques. Talk to your surgeon about which option is best for you.
Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass
RYGB restricts food intake and decreases the absorption of food. The creation of a small pouch that excludes most of the stomach and other parts of the digestive tract re-routes food directly into the small intestine.
Adjustable Gastric Band
The AGB is a small, bracelet-like band placed around the top of the stomach to decrease food intake. A circular balloon inside the band can be inflated or deflated with saline solution to change the size of the opening.
A GS procedure is when a surgeon creates a small, sleeve-shaped stomach about the size of a banana. A GS processed may by the first step in a two-part treatment when a gastric bypass is to be performed later.
