Expert care to help improve your heart health.
There are many types of heart conditions, and different treatments are needed. Our board-certified cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, and experienced support staff work together in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of heart and vascular conditions. They perform tens of thousands of diagnostic, interventional, and surgical procedures each year, and patients throughout Alabama rely on the expertise Brookwood offers. We have received performance awards from the American Heart Association, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, CIGNA, and UnitedHealth, recognizing our dedication to quality patient care.
The wealth of experience and credentials of our doctors and staff and the advanced technology we use result in quick diagnoses and treatment. Upgrading our technology and equipment regularly allows us to continue to provide a wider number of treatment options.
Heart Attack Intervention Program
The Brookwood Emergency Department quickly assesses and diagnoses patients with heart attack symptoms. The award-winning team includes Emergency Department physicians, cardiologists, and trained personnel who administer the appropriate treatments.
We have a team of physicians and staff dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of heart and vascular disease, who perform thousands of tests annually, including nuclear medicine, ultrasound, EKG, and 64-slice Cardiac CT.
Cardiac Catheterization Labs
In labs designed to perform diagnostic and interventional procedures, our team of specially trained cardiologists views images of the heart and arteries. We’ve added intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and a new imaging system with flat panel technology, providing three fully integrated labs for both cardiac and vascular procedures.
All-digital cardiovascular and interventional imaging helps physicians clearly visualize fine blood vessels and precisely place stents, successfully performing many lifesaving procedures. The intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) uses high-frequency sound waves to provide the cardiologist a cross-sectional view from inside the artery. Combined with angiography, this gives a better picture of the diseased artery and helps determine the best treatment options.
Cardiovascular Procedures & Specialized Nursing Units
Board-certified cardiovascular and cardiothoracic specialists perform procedures in our dedicated heart and vascular procedure rooms. After, patients recover comfortably in our specialized cardiac nursing units. Our experienced nurses and support staff provide compassionate care customized to individual cardiac patients’ treatment and recovery needs.
Sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea, can increase your chances of developing cardiovascular disease, if left untreated. If you have obstructive sleep apnea your risk of high blood pressure becomes greater, as well as increased atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, and other vascular diseases. Brookwood’s Sleep Center has a professional staff, using advanced diagnostic equipment, in a cost-effective manner.
