BIRMINGHAM, ALA. -
Katelyn
Camacho Yau, Captain in the U.S. Air Force and NICU Charge
Nurse at Princeton Baptist, was deployed to Afghanistan in
March of this year. This September, she returned from abroad to
present a military shadow box to her team at Princeton Baptist.
“After returning from Afghanistan, it means the world to me to see all the people that supported and prayed for me while I was there,” Cpt. Camacho Yau said.
Katelyn has worked at Princeton Baptist as a NICU nurse for five years and was able to use
several skillsets and teachings learned at Princeton in her service abroad. She served in a
military hospital at Hamid Karzai International Airport (HKIA) that supported the Afghans and
all the collision forces.
Pat Franklin, Nurse Manager for Women’s Services, shared her excitement to have Katelyn return.
“To me, Kate is a real American hero. I am just so thankful for the power of prayer and how God has moved in this to get Kate and many others home,” she said.
At a special recognition meeting, she presented a shadow box to the hospital containing a flag flown at the hospital in Afghanistan, a special certificate highlighting her service and several photos. One of the photos featured Katelyn caring for an Afghan baby, who was featured in a famous photo from August of this year, of military lifting the baby over the wall at a Kabul airport. The baby was soon reunited with family
