BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Brookwood Baptist Health today announced the hiring of Group Chief Nursing Officer Jackie Martinek.

The hiring represents a homecoming for the nursing veteran, as she first went to work at Brookwood as a new graduate staff nurse in 1979, serving as chief nursing officer from 2004 to 2017 before being named Associate Chief Nursing Officer at UAB.

“We could not be more excited to welcome Jackie back to Brookwood,” said Brookwood Baptist Health CEO Jeremy Clark. “It’s such an honor for us when someone who has spent time here before decides to come back. It’s a testament to the work our team does every day and to the future we have in front of us. Jackie’s full-time commitment to high quality, compassionate care is a trait that cannot be overvalued and one that will undoubtedly make Brookwood a better place.

Martinek graduated from the UAB School of Nursing in 1979 and went on to receive her Certification in Executive Nursing Practice from the American Organization of Nurse Executives and a Master of Health Services Administration from the University of St. Francis.

Outside of work, Jackie has served as the president of the Alabama Organization for Nursing Leadership for the past three years. Additionally, Jackie is certified in Executive Nursing Practice and is heavily involved with the March of Dimes.

“Brookwood is home for me,” Martinek said. “This facility, the patients and the staff have been such an important part of my life, and I’m completely humbled to have the opportunity to return.”

Martinek will replace Robbie Hindman, who retired in June after 22 years with Brookwood Baptist Health.
