WBMC Makes New Advances in Prostate Cancer Detection

Oct 18, 2016

Birmingham, AL– October 18, 2016 – Walker Baptist Medical Center is proud to introduce a powerful new solution for prostate cancer detection with advanced MR/Ultrasound Fusion Biopsies.  Termed as UroNav, this new technology offers an alternative prostate screening option for patients with elevated and/or rising PSA levels, which can improve the detection of prostate cancer and remove a patient’s uncertain state of diagnosis after a prostate exam.

Poised to become the new standard in prostate care, Walker Baptist Medical Center is pleased to be the first urology group in the Jasper area to offer this powerful solution UrnoNav’s advanced technology combines pre-biopsy MR images of the prostate with ultrasound-guided biopsy images in real time, for excellent delineation of the prostate and suspicious lesions.

“We are confident that this new technology will bring new hope to patients and provide our healthcare providers with the latest technology to identify and target suspicious prostate lesions,” explains Dr. Alan McCool, urologist at Walker Baptist Medical Center.

“Bringing this system to the Jasper area will allow us to better serve our community and help those who have prostate issues, such as cancer,” said urologist Dr. Brian Stone.

Other than skin cancer, prostate cancer has become the most common form of cancer in American men and the second-leading cause of cancer death in this population. As 1 man in 6 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime, Walker Baptist Medical Center‘s introduction of MR/ultrasound fusion biopsy could help save lives.
