Brookwood, Baptist Hospitals to Merge

Jun 23, 2015
WVTM – June 23 –The hospital landscape in central Alabama may soon change now that two will be merging. The new joint venture involves Brookwood and Baptist hospitals.

This new healthcare network will include all Baptist Health System hospitals and Tenet's Brookwood Medical Center. It also includes each organization's related businesses.

Under the joint venture arrangement, Tenet will be the majority partner and will manage the network's operations. Together, the new system will have more than 1,700 licensed beds, about 7,300 employees and 1,500 doctors.

"We look forward to the opportunity to partner with such a highly regarded organization as Baptist Health System," Tenet president of hospital operations Britt Reynolds said in a statement.

"We are excited about joining with Tenet, to provide high-quality healthcare to communities across central Alabama. This partnership will strengthen our collective efforts and enhance healthcare across the region," said Keith Parrot, the current CEO of Baptist, who will also serve as the CEO of the joint venture.

Both representatives for the hospitals said they weren't doing TV interviews, saying it's too soon, since this is only a letter of intent.

Other area hospitals have a right to challenge the merger. It could be finalized in 60 to 90 days.
