History of Brookwood Baptist Health
Taking care of Central Alabama Together
Formerly Brookwood Medical Center and Baptist Health System, Brookwood Baptist Health unifies two of the largest resources for high-quality, affordable healthcare for the citizens of Central Alabama. Together, we represent Alabama’s largest and most experienced network of primary and specialty care physicians dedicated to the health of Central Alabama residents.
Began by the shared interest of a group of physicians to bring high quality, convenient care to their communities, Brookwood Medical Center today is a 607 bed, full service acute care hospital deeply embedded within the Birmingham Community. Brookwood has prominent oncology, cardiology, mental health and orthopedic programs, and is distinguished for developing it’s women’s center, Alabama’s first dedicated women’s hospital. Similar to Brookwood’s foundations, the primary focus of the Baptist Health mission began with the spirit to take care of communities through whole healing. Offering nationally recognized, high-quality deeply rooted in our purpose to honor God and others has always been the heart of our mission.
Altogether, Brookwood Baptist Health boasts upwards of 1,700 beds, includes 60 primary and speciality care clinics, approximately 1,500 affiliated physicians, and nearly 7,300 employees overall. Through innovative care and providing compassionate patient experiences to our communities, our collective effort will strengthen our mission to empower communities to live happier, healthier lives.
