Welcome to Brookwood Baptist Health!

Apr 4, 2016

Welcome to Brookwood Baptist Health, Alabama’s new community of care.

While we have a new name and face, we are still offering the same care and attention you have come to know and love from our physicians, nurses, and staff. This new joint venture allows us to provide greater convenience, access, clinical coordination and value for those we serve; our friends, neighbors, and all of central Alabama. By joining together, we have heightened our ability to better serve patients by creating a larger network of resources, expertise and innovation, and we will continue to integrate operations in order to better serve our patients.

As the result of the merger between Baptist Health System and Brookwood Medical Center, a part of Tenet Health, we are now the largest healthcare network in the state of Alabama with five acute care hospitals: Brookwood Baptist Medical Center (Birmingham); Princeton Baptist Medical Center (Birmingham); Shelby Baptist Medical Center (Alabaster); Walker Baptist Medical Center (Jasper), and Citizens Baptist Medical Center (Talladega). The network also includes 77 additional locations including health centers, physician practices, imaging centers, a freestanding emergency department and the largest Primary Care network in the state.

The Logo

Because the joint venture unites Baptist, Brookwood and Tenet, we chose a logo that represents these three organizations coming together in order to put people back at the center of healthcare. The rings are a visual representation of that renewed patient-centricity, unique and individual paths to better health, and our coming together to provide healing ministry to individuals of all ages.

The collective thinking behind the new brand and its development is rooted in service and devotion. Our faith-based heritage is very much reflected in our name, Brookwood Baptist Health, and in our organizational mission and values.  We are inspired by Ecclesiastes 4:12 – “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

The Leadership

The hospital leadership in each of our communities will largely stay the same. Leadership includes:

  • Chuck Stark – Brookwood Baptist Health - Brookwood Baptist Medical Center
  • Bob Phillips – Brookwood Baptist Health - Shelby Baptist Medical Center
  • John Langlois – Brookwood Baptist Health - Walker Baptist Medical Center
  • Joel Taylor – Brookwood Baptist Health - Citizens Baptist Medical Center
  • Betsy Postlethwait – Brookwood Baptist Health - Princeton Baptist Medical Center

Keith Parrott, former CEO for Baptist Health System, is now CEO of Brookwood Baptist Health.

Moving Forward

Change takes time. You will see some immediate changes by way of elevator wraps, posters, nametags and some signage. However, the full switchover to our new logo and new brand identity will be a more long-term effort. Installation of new external and internal brand signage will begin as quickly as possible, and over the course of the next six to nine months, former logos and separate entity brand signage will be taken down and replaced with new Brookwood Baptist Health materials.
